The Manhattan cocktail is one that is made of bitters, sweet vermouth and whisky. Rye, Canadian whisky, bourbon, Tennessee whisky and blended whisky are commonly used to make this cocktail. The contents of the cocktail are often stirred and then strained into a cocktail glass or lowball glass after which it is garnished with a Maraschino cherry with a stem.

Rye Whiskey Manhattan Cocktail Recipe


  • Rye Whiskey - 2 oz
  • Sweet Vermouth - ½ oz
  • Angostura Bitters - 2-3 dashes
  • Maraschino Cherry (for garnish)


  • To begin put all the ingredients into a mixing glass filled with ice cubes. Then stir well.
  • Once that is done strain into a chilled glass and garnish with the Maraschino cherry.

Blended Whiskey Cocktail Recipe


  • Blended Whiskey - 2 oz
  • Sweet Vermouth - ½ oz
  • Dry Vermouth - ½ oz
  • Bitters - 1 dash
  • Maraschino Cherry (for garnish)


  • Put all the ingredients into a mixing glass filled with ice and swirl. Once it is done pour into a cocktail glass.

  • Presentation is important so look for unusually shaped drinking glasses to serve the classic Manhattan cocktail in. To give the drinking glass a frosted effect simply dip the rim into lemon juice and then into sugar. Serve on a colorful drink coaster and enjoy!
