It’s only mid November and I’ve already started my Christmas shopping. This Christmas I am trying to avoid buying something for myself as I’d rather spend on some nice little gifts for family and friends. I had this change of heart when I watched a Christmas movie know the kind that makes you rethink the reason you celebrate Christmas. I am looking forward to spending quality time with my family and friends so I have already picked out a few cake, cookies and food recipes. So this Christmas for me is exclusively at home with family and friends for that I have already made a list of the top 10 movies on Christmas, here I share it with you. Happy Holidays!

It’s A Wonderful Life - 1946

You must include this movie in your must see Christmas movie list too since it is a story of goodwill and plenty of Christmas cheer. This film talks about George Bailey who is miserable and wishes he had never been born. That is when an angel named Clarence comes to him and shows him what his town would be like if he had never existed. The act gets him back into the holiday spirit and he now knows how much people like him.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (TV - 1964)

You’ve grown up listening to this Christmas carol and now it’s time to watch the film! In this Christmas movie you find Rudolph making friends with the misfits of the North Pole. He ventures along with his friends out and finds the land of Misfit toys but they are not allowed to stay. When he returns home he finds that his family as well as Clarice, a young doe have gone looking for him and have been captured by the Abominable Snow-monster. All’s well that ends well, Rudolph saves the day with the help of his misfit friends.

A Charlie Brown Christmas (TV-1965)

In this film the famous character Charlie Brown becomes the director of the school pageant. His job here includes buying an aluminum tree for the show. Linus and he go out to buy one but come back with a forlorn real tree. Charlie comes back dismayed by the way in which commercialization has taken over this wonderful holiday and that’s when he tries to find the true meaning of Christmas.

Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town - 1970

This movie is about Kris Kringle, the man who becomes Santa Claus. It talks about how he brings toys for the children in a town that has outlawed them. This movie shows good triumph over evil as we watch Winter Warlock’s transformation from a fearsome character into a compassionate wizard. This movie is a classic and contains the famous and wonderful song “"Put One Foot In Front of the Other."

The Year Without a Santa Claus (TV -1974)

Close your eyes and imagine a Christmas without Santa? I can’t and this movie made me realize his importance even more. Like a lot of other people Santa is discouraged and sick since he feels that children don’t believe in him anymore. That is when two elves go on a journey to find kids who still believe in Santa.  A good movie with catchy numbers which I am sure your family will enjoy.

Home Alone - 1990

This wonderful Christmas movie stars Maculay Culkin as Kevin. This little boy wishes that he could live alone and his wish is granted when his parents accidently leave him alone while they go to Paris. Kevin enjoys his solitude but things get bad when a couple of bandits target his home. Kevin has to now defend his possessions and that’s when he learns the value of having a family around. A must see for people of all ages!

Muppet Christmas Carol - 1992

I have grown up watching the Muppets on television so I thoroughly enjoyed watching this Christmas movie. Based on the novel by Charles Dickens this film has Michael Caine as Scrooge. This film includes everything you would expect, there’s mild violence, sing-a-longs and slap stick banter too. So sit back, sip a hot chocolate and enjoy the experience!

A Nightmare Before Christmas - 1993

This Tim Burton musical has a slightly darker side since it shows Jack who is a stick insect of a man with a skull for a head wanting to take over Santa’s job. Of course the Christmas town doesn’t allow it. An interesting Christmas movie, do watch it during this holiday.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas - 1996

If you and other members of your family like animated movies then this film based on Dr. Seuss’ original story is a must watch. This film introduces us to Grinch, who is a non-human scrooge and how he tries to ruin Christmas for the inhabitants of Whoville. He tries to do so by stealing their holiday treats, trees and presents. Luckily his hatred turns to love and he has a change of heart when he finds friendship with the Whos.

Elf - 2003

As is evident in the title this Christmas movie is about an Elf, played by Will Ferrell. A very enjoyable movie it has plenty of ridiculous moments, including a fight with a mistaken Elf. Sounds interesting? Remember to include this movie in your Christmas movie list also!
