Like all creative arts photography too requires an eye for detail and a creative bent of mind. The famous fashion photographers who have found a place on this page have worked had to make a name for themselves in the fashion circuit. Read on to know more about these fashion photographers.

A few months ago I found myself in the studio of a professional fashion photographer excited to get my makeover and photo shoot done. It was a wonderful and enlightening experience since he took photographs that highlighted my best features making me look like a beauty queen. Believe me that evening I felt like a million dollars! It is ever since that day I have actually tried to understand the creative and other aspects which form an important part of fashion photography and that’s the reason I researched and came up with this article that talks about famous fashion photographers...the people who have made a difference in the world of fashion photography.

Juergen Teller
Born in Erlangen, Germany in the year 1964, Juergen Teller is today a famous fashion photographer based in England. In the beginning of his career, Teller worked with celebrities but soon he began shooting for magazines like The Face and i-D, which were both youth style magazines. Juergen Teller has carved a niche for himself in the world of fashion photography and is today regarded as an important part of contemporary fashion photographers. This famous fashion photographer is known the world over for the introduction of the heroin chic trend in the early 1990.  Apart from the above he is also known for using a simple 35 mm point as well as shoot camera.

Herbert Ritts
This famous fashion photographer was born on 13 August 1952 into a Jewish family in Los Angeles, California. Herbert Ritts started his career by working in the family furniture business but soon moved to the East coast. It was here that Ritts attended Bard College. Ritts became interested in photography quite by chance when he met a young man whom he photographed. This young man turned out to be Richard Gere. It was these photographs that provided him some coverage because of which he was able to start a serious career in photography. Herbet Ritts concentrated on black and white photography taken in the style of classical Greek sculpture. This famous photographer has worked for magazines like Vogue, Vanity Fair, Elle and GQ to name a few.

Patrick Demarchelier
Patrick Demarchelier is a famous fashion photographer who was born in Paris, France in the year 1943. It was when he was 17 years old that his stepfather brought him his first camera which helped him develop his already inherent skills in photography. Soon this young man learnt how to develop film as well as retouch negatives and thus began taking pictures of friends and weddings. It was in the year 1975 that Patrick Demarchelier left Paris for the city of New York. It was in this city that he learnt about fashion photography and worked with many famous photographers. Soon his work began getting him attention. This famous fashion photographer is well known for his stunning pictures of supermodel Christie Brinkley as well as Princess Diana. It was in the year 2007 that this great artist was honoured as an Officer dans l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres by Mrs. Christine Albanel, Minister of Culture, France. This award is a prestigious award bestowed only upon great artists.

Albert Watson
This famous fashion photographer was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and started his career in photography with leading names in the world of fashion. Magazines like The Face, Newsweek, Rolling Stone and Vogue are some of the magazines he is associated with. This talented photographer suffered from blindness in one eye, but despite that he never let this fact hamper his career in photography. Albert Watson has also published two books of his photography. It was in the year 1995 this great artist’s work was recognised through an honorary degree from the University of Dundee as well as his induction into the Scottish Fashion Awards Hall of Fame.

Donald McPherson
This famous fashion photographer was born in Florida in 1969. It was in 1992 that McPherson moved to Europe in order to pursue his career in photography. This fashion photographer is known around the world for his understanding of fashion and being able to capture that on camera. Donald McPherson has worked with many celebrities such as David Bowie, Duchess of York, Tom Cruise, Keira Knightly and Ashton Kutcher to name a few. Mc Pherson’s clientele include Valentiono, Levi’s, Estée Lauder, Hanes and Saks Fifth Avenue apart from a few other high profile clients. Even today this fashion photographer contributes to fashion magazines like the Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, Russian Vogue and others.

Helmut Newton
Born in Schoneberg, Berlin on 31 October 1920 this fashion photographer expressed interest in photography from the early age of 12, which was when he bought his first camera. Helmut Newton began his photography career by working for a German photographer, Else Neulander Simon. This famous fashion photographer tried his hand at many other professions until he found his niche in fashion photography. Within a short span of time this photographer’s work appeared on the covers of fashion magazines such as the French Vogue. This great artist’s work can be found on display at the Museum of Photography which is located close the railway station near the Berlin Zoo.

Steven Meisel
This famous American fashion photographer was born in 1964. Steven Meisel shot to fame because of his work in the US and Italian Vogue as also because of the photographs that he took of his friend Madonna. Apart from the above, this fashion photographer is known for shooting all the Prada campaigns since 2004 apart from a host of shoots for other important clients. Miesel is also known for using fashion campaigns to bring name and fame to unknown models. A few such models who have received stardom because of Steven Miesel are Coco Rocha, Gemma Ward and Jessica Stam.
